ANNEANNA – Fuars Mobilya, Antakya – Y 2018

A table between grandma and grandchildren.

A material culture heritage of such a complexity forced to create the terms of a dialogue. A dialogue with present time, with new technics, between cultures, dialogue between East and West. We took a table cloth, more alike an embroidered decorative centerpiece, we scanned it, transformed the image into a 3d file then re-modeled the nurbs till obtaining a bas-relief version of it. The CNC machine has carved the table cloth directly on the wooden (oak) table top characterized by tapered longitudinal profiles. After that the engraved surface of the top has been coated with a layer of transparent epoxy. So the grand-ma tablecloth is frozen, like an insect in amber, inside the table (identity, soul…) and ready for hosting other and new layers of culture on its polished surface. The table was selected to be included inside the spEcial exhibition “Turkish Design Genetic Code” inside Design Week Turkey 2018. We accepted, still I think Anneanna it’s a mutant, a genetic aberration, a half-breed code with four incredibly stable inclined legs.
